Many industries’ parts have high requirements for CNC machining precision, to get the most out of CNC machines, here are some tips and strategies for CNC machining optimization.

Tips & Strategies to Optimize CNC Machining Precision

To improve the CNC machining efficiency, we should understand and carefully analyze every aspect from raw materials, engineering drawing, programming, CNC system, tooling, to shipping finished product to the customer. Then how to optimize the component precision?

1. Improve the CNC Machine Performance
– When designing the part, optimize the machine structure and the loading of parts.
– Clean the machine before processing thoroughly and properly.
– Check out the environment temperature, humidity, electromagnetic strength, dust, and vibration, and eliminate the factors that affect the CNC machining precision, to reduce errors.
– Divide the error source effectively so as to control the machining precision in CNC manufacturing.

2. Improve the CNC Programming
– Control the moving direction of the cutter appropriately, ensure there is no gap between CNC machines and the moving path of cutting tools, or ensure the selected tool path in the direction of product movement, to eliminate the gaps.
– The technicians can perfect the programs in the running process of machine tools.

3. Improve the Design Rationality of CNC Machine
– Consider the overall load capacity of the machine tool and the balance of the forces on each part during the operation, to structural deformation or fracture at the connection of some mechanisms due to the low bearing capacity. The integrity of the whole structure of the CNC machine tool also has an important impact on the machining precision.
– The height of the machine should be decreased to ensure the overall stability, and the cooling water circulation should be considered when designing, to reduce the heat production during the CNC parts machining. Because the CNC equipment usually vibrates when processing the parts, which is not conducive to the precision of the components.
– Fully familiar with the shape, size, tolerance, and precision of the workpiece, choose right parameters, to ensure a smooth machining process.

4. Improve the Geometric Precision of Machine Guide Rails
– When using the CNC machine to produce required parts, it’s necessary to calculate and check the geometric precision of the guide rail.
– If the equipment is a fully functional integrated machine, the bed is often used inclined type, which is mainly to simplify and lower the weight, to ensure the precision of the guideway. What’s more, simplifying the structure can improve its load capacity of bending strength and running precision under high load.
– When selecting the ball of the guide rail, the cylindrical ball with larger load capacity is generally considered.
